DBS Check
Statutory guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education requires providers to ensure that entrants on all routes, including salaried schemes, have been subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check including a check of the children’s barred list, and they should keep records showing that trainees have obtained these.
All trainee teachers must be checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) through the ‘Disclosure’ process and will be assessed for suitability by the SCITT.
All offers of a place at the Ashton on Mersey SCITT remain conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory disclosure, prior to starting the programme. Trainee teachers will also have a prohibition of teaching check.
Health Check
As your accredited teacher training provider, we have a responsibility to ensure that trainees have the health and physical capacity to train to teach and will not put children and young people at risk of harm. The activities that a teacher must be able to perform are set out in the Education (Health Standards) (England) Regulations 2003. We are responsible for ensuring that only trainees who have the capacity to train to teach remain on the programme.
People with disabilities or chronic illnesses may have the capacity to train to teach, just as those without disabilities or medical conditions may be unsuitable to train to teach.
Successful applicants will be asked to complete a fitness questionnaire relating to teaching prior to commencing the programme.
